Some Foodie Blog love

So I’ve recently joined a Foodie Blog Group and I’m very excited. We can help each other with motivation, questions, hints, tips, support in general. People in the same niche with whom we can share and encourage. It’s pretty great actually.
The group was started by my bloggy mentor Blogelina. She’s been an amazing resource. As a matter of fact, she did the transfer of this blog from blogger here to WordPress. :)
I just wanted to give a shout out to my Foodie Blog Buddies; share them with you and let you experience all they have to offer for yourself. :)

The Family Foodie – Family-friendly meals made with fresh seasonal ingredients. She also does Gluten Free recipes/adaptations as well
Armstrong Family Fare – Meal planning and tons of recipes
Tim and Angi’s Blog – Recipes (see the mint chocolate cookies!) as well as homeschooling, giveaways, and reviews.
Alex Shares – recipes and food stuff featured every Wednesday as well as organizing tips from a work at home mom.

So head over…check em out. Follow them and then let them know I sent you! :)

Homemade gifts from the munchkin

Racking my brain to figure out what to do for gifts for the family on an incredibly limited (read; nonexistent) budget was killin me!

And then…
A stroke of genius!
Hahahaha!!!
No! Definitely not genius, but certainly a pretty good idea…if I do say so myself. ;)

I was staring at these scraps of white cardstock that have been taking up space in my craft tote for months now and it occurred to me…”Hey, those are just about the right size for bookmarks.” So…knowing that nobody (but the incredibly untrained and forgiving eyes of Justice) wants to see artwork of mine, I decided that Justice’s love for coloring was going to pay off! :)

So…guess what the fam is getting this year??
That’s right fab fans and followers. Homemade bookmarks a la Justice!
So easy but heartfelt and personal. Bingo baby!

All done and ready for wrapping

the little details

She had quite a good time making these (as is evidenced still on her hands) and everyone gets to enjoy her artwork now. :)

We’re also going to be making some handprint ornaments which I’m quite looking forward to. Can’t go wrong with flour, salt, water, and paint! I’m loving the whole handmade gift thing! I’ll post the source and pics of the ornaments either tomorrow or Wednesday when I get them done.

Hope you enjoy this quick little craft/gift. If you have any along these lines, PLEASE! share :D

Happy crafting/gifting/wrapping

So here it is for you…in all of its short glory.

So that covers it this week. Exciting stuff huh?!
What about you? What’s gracing your table this week??

Looking forward to yummy dinners and a fab trip,

An early start…on learning

“Oh, right. I keep forgetting that she’s only 2. I keep thinking she’s 3. She acts and talks like a 3 year old, you know that Right?!”
Those were the words that came from our pediatrician just a couple of weeks ago at Justice & Evan’s yearly well child checks.
Evan’s right on track and doing great. :D
Justice, however, is meeting many of the 3 year milestones. She just turned 2 the end of November. ;) Watching the pediatrician observe her was rather entertaining. He had a moderate look of surprise with a smile the entire time. At one point, he started to tell me that she hadn’t grown very much and was still rather small for her age when he then had to again remind himself that she was only 2 and growth wise was right on track. LOL

I told him that she amazes us on a daily basis and is just sooooo much fun! Her increasing vocabulary leaves us in wonder and the rate with which she’s learning new skills is sometimes mind-blowing.

For example:

She knows all of her colors. In English and Spanish (although brown and purple in spanish get mixed up as they’re quite close). She knows all the basic shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval, heart, star, and diamond). She recognizes almost all 26 letters according to words that start with them and is very quickly picking up their names too. She’s learning the ABC song and wants it sung daily. She knows 1-10 in both English and Spanish and can count up to 5 correctly in both. After 5 it gets a little mixed up but she’s working on it! :) She can draw a line and a circle and we’re working on squares. She knows her name, age, and sex. She identifies the sex of pretty much everything she sees, human and animal (stuffed and real). She pretends with her stuffed animals/toys. They eat and go potty, color, and need chapstick, etc… She’s working on undressing herself (thankfully not in public yet!). She very much wants to learn how to tie. I think that one’s going to take quite a while as her dexterity isn’t quite there yet, but she’s definitely working on it. She’s an avid “reader” too! Girl loves her books!

She’s just so wonderful and fun!

I’m definitely supporting and encouraging her quest for learning. As part of that I’ve made some learning tools for her. I went to Hobby Lobby and got some poster board. I bought 1 big poster board and a pack of 5 smaller ones. And this is what I’ve done with them…

One of her favorite spots in the house now :)

I’m certainly no artist but they suffice.

We sit here in the hallway at least once a day and go through all the boards. She’ll come to me “B C’s mama” “B C song mama” “Walk me B C’s mom” and off we go to sing and learn. It’s so great. And helping her learn is SO easy. I mean come on…some poster board and markers. That’s all it takes! Can’t get much better than that. I spent less than $3 for the poster board. Done! :) And the pure joy that’s in her voice and on her face is absolutely priceless. She loves learning and you know what?? I LOVE teaching her!

I hope that this has inspired you to take the business of teaching your kids into your own hands! You can give them an amazing start. Whether they go on to public, private, or homeschool. Whether you work in or outside of the house. Whether they go to daycare or spend their days destroying their own home. You can invest in your kids…and with little to no monetary investment. So please…do so! It’s more reward than you can ever imagine.

Thrilled to be teaching,

Mo

Bowties; the tasty kind :)

A tasty dish that I didn’t even get to try any of until it was already leftovers. :)
This past Wednesday was Dominic’s company Christmas party. For the 2nd time in 2 years we actually left the kids with a sitter and went out.

Just the two of us!

It was fabulous. We had a wonderful dinner at a lovely restaurant with terrific table mates; it was fantastic! But I did actually make dinner before we left. Afterall, have to feed the kids and the sitter. So I went ahead and made the scheduled dinner and to great reviews. Yay! Talk about a jackpot for the night! :)

With the exception of course, of taking any pictures of this delish new recipe that is…

Yeah…can’t win ‘em all I guess ;)

On to the new tasty Dump & Ditch from possibly one of my most favorite new sites!

Italian Bowtie Supper  courtesy of 365 Days of Slow Cooking

Serves 6
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped (you guessed it-Mo special here-dried minced)
1 garlic clove, minced (used garlic salt)
16 oz tomato sauce
14 1/2 oz diced stewed tomatoes
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp italian seasoning
salt and pepper to taste
16 oz bow tie pasta, cooked and drained
10 oz frozen chopped spinach, thawed and well drained (I omitted)
6 oz shredded mozzarella cheese (I used around about that much…)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (I used about a cup or so)

In skillet, cook beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until meat is not longer pink; drain. Transfer to slow cooker.
Stir in the tomato sauce, tomatoes and seasonings. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until bubbly.
Increase heat to high; stir in pasta, spinach and cheeses. Cover and cook for 10 minutes or until heated through and the cheese
is melted.

This one was easy and tasty. Definitely a new addition to the Dump & Ditch list worth repeating. This yielded 6-8 servings by my count. (If you can call that “a count”) ;)

I hope you try this one on your table soon, it went over well on ours.
